ReSpiin Seagrass Rectangular Basket Set
Description
Hand woven, lightweight and strong, this set of three Seagrass baskets has two rectangle sizes and one square. Naturally smart and versatile, these trays are useful in the office, kitchen and all around the home. Approximate sizes - measurements from top outer rim:
- Large basket – 29 x 20 x 5 cm
- Medium basket – 25 x 18 x 5 cm
- Small basket – 16 x 18 x 5 cm
Jute plants are easy to grow, have a high yield per acre and, unlike cotton, have little need for pesticides and fertilisers. Jute grows during the rainy season in Bangladesh which is from June to October. One the flowers have shed the plants are ready to harvest, this takes just four to six months!
The fibres lie beneath the bark around the woody core. To extract the fibre, the jute bundles are submersed in water and left for a few days until the fibres come loose and are ready for stripping from the stalk, then washed and dried. This is what the ReSpiin baskets are made from. The remaining jute stalks can be used in a similar way to wood pulp, or work well as a renewable source of cooking fuel.

I bought the jumbo lunch box and additional green lidded snack pots for my 3.5 yr old son to use at preschool. He loves it, eats all his food and has no issue opening and closing the box. (We did practice using it at home first)
