I have always said that you don't need a complete lifestyle change to be more eco; I am here to help you take those mundane tasks you probably don't think twice about, and make them a little more eco without requiring constant effort or decision fatigue. The most effective changes are usually the ones you barely notice after a week — they just become “how you do things”.

These five swaps, inspired by products I use and love myself, are designed around that idea: small, practical changes that reduce waste without making life harder.

1. Toothbrush & toothpaste swaps — because you already do this every day

Brushing your teeth is one of the most consistent habits in your life, which makes it the perfect place to make a low-effort sustainable switch.

Swapping to a bamboo toothbrush and plastic-free toothpaste tablets or low-waste alternatives means you’re reducing plastic at a point in your routine that doesn’t require any extra thought. You’re not adding a new habit — you’re just upgrading an existing one.

All you have to do is choose your favourite colour/flavour and you're ready to go!

Here are my top recommendations:

  1. Truthbrush Year Supply - keep them in the cupboard so you never run out!
  2. Georganics Toothpaste - the same as your 'normal' toothpaste but in a plastic free tube!
  3. Georganics plastic free and refillable dental floss

2. Kitchen sponges — stop microplastics at the sink

Traditional kitchen sponges are often made from synthetic materials that shed microplastics every time you use them. Over time, those particles can end up in waterways.

Swapping to plastic-free sponges and natural fibre alternatives removes that issue entirely, without changing how you clean your dishes and they can be washed in your washing machine and reused time and time again. Seriously, I haven't bought any new washing sponges in over 2 years!

This is one of the easiest “invisible” swaps — your kitchen works exactly the same, but with less environmental impact behind the scenes.

Here are my top recommendations:

  1. Seep Sponge Scourers - As seen on Dragons Den and gives you the perfect blend of soft and scrubby!
  2. Eco Living Dish Brush - for those that prefer a brush, buy this once and just replace the plant based head when you need to!
  3. Cleaning Cloths - they're compostable and no plastic in sight!

3. Refillable skincare & haircare — delivered, simplified, and less waste

Skincare and haircare products tend to create a lot of packaging waste over time: bottles, pumps, tubes, boxes, and lids that add up quickly.

The refillable skincare and haircare options I've created in home compostable pouches really are an incredible solution to save waste and money! Set up a subscription and simplify that entire cycle. Products arrive through your letterbox, you dispense into your empties instead of rebuying and recycling your perfectly in-tact jars!

The real advantage here isn’t just sustainability — it’s convenience. Fewer decisions, fewer empty bottles cluttering your bathroom, and fewer trips to restock.

It’s a system designed to quietly remove friction from your routine while cutting waste at the same time.

4. Refillable cleaning sachets — more space, less clutter

Cleaning products are notorious for bulky packaging. Cabinets fill up quickly with bottles for every surface, even though many of them do similar jobs.

Refillable cleaning sachets solve two problems at once: waste and storage. You keep a reusable bottle and simply mix in a concentrated sachet when you run out. That means less plastic, fewer heavy bottles to carry home, and a much tidier cupboard.

It also makes it easier to stay stocked up — you can keep spare sachets without taking up much space, so you’re never caught without cleaning products when you need them.

5. gomi portable chargers — recycled materials with built-in longevity

Some sustainable swaps go beyond everyday consumables and into the tech you use constantly. Portable chargers are a great example, because they’re often replaced frequently and contribute to electronic waste.

gomi portable chargers are made using recycled plastic and designed with repairability in mind. Instead of being disposable tech, they’re built to be fixed — with free repairs always included.

That shift matters. It moves away from the idea that gadgets have a short life cycle and towards something more circular: use, repair, reuse.

It’s a small change in what you carry, but a big change in how long it stays useful.

Small swaps, real impact

None of these changes require a complete lifestyle overhaul. That’s the point.

Each one replaces something you already use, without adding complexity to your routine. Over time, these small decisions reduce plastic waste, simplify storage, and make sustainable living feel normal rather than effortful.

The easiest eco-friendly habits are the ones you don’t have to think too hard about — you just do them!
